Sure, there are tons of recipes on the internet on how to make some delicious Christmas treats, but this month we want to be here to share with you a recipe on how to make all those dirty dishes made during the holidays as clean as possible while saving you money and avoiding typical chemicals found in store-bought detergent.

The recipe for this all-natural homemade dishwasher detergent is both simple to make and is non-toxic. Cooking and baking for the holidays create a lot of dirty dishes which puts your dishwasher to work and uses up a lot of detergent. This recipe is inexpensive, natural, powerful and more effective than commercial detergents and will leave your dishes and glasses sparkling and spot-free.

Here is what you’ll need:

- 1 cup super washing soda (aka Sodium Carbonate, breaks down food & grease and works as a solvent)

- 1 cup baking soda (odor absorber and fights grime and grease)

- 1 cup citric acid (antibacterial and antiseptic and lifts stains off dishes)

- 1/2 cup table salt (softens water and reduces spotting on dishes)

- 1 teaspoon lemon essential oil (natural, non-toxic scent)

- 1/2 teaspoon rosemary essential oil (natural, non-toxic scent)

- 1 medium airtight glass jar

Here is how to make it:

1 - In a medium bow, combine the super washing soda, baking soda, citric acid and table salt. Stir.

2 - Add the lemon and rosemary oil and stir thoroughly.

3 - Scoop into your airtight jar. Ready to use!

How do I use this detergent?

You will need to scoop one tablespoon of this homemade detergent per one load of dishes. This recipe yields about 56 loads!

This homemade dishwasher detergent recipe is fast and easy to make and will leave your dishes looking shiny and spot-free. Now that there IS so much research and knowledge out in the world on how harmful some household products can be due to chemical ingredients, taking one step to a more natural remedy can never hurt (and may save you money in the long run!)

Thank you for the recipe, Life-n-Reflection!
